A Journey of Experience and Dedication
Bill Anderson has been in the field for 32 years. “I started my training with Hazleton in 1991,” Bill recalled. His passion for counseling emerged from his own experiences. “I got here because I was the guy sitting in treatment going, ‘So how do you become a counselor?’ I started as a BHT (Behavioral Health Technician) and worked my way up.”
Bill’s career trajectory is impressive to say the least. He has worked with the Betty Ford Center, where he started their Children’s Program in Colorado in 2003. He also worked closely with two treatment centers in Oklahoma during their openings—Rob’s Ranch in Purcell and Clay Crossing in Maud. “I started it by writing the policies and procedures and hired everybody. I’ve worked in outpatient, residential, and private practice. I’ve been an EAP program director and a clinical director. I’ve been through it all,” Bill explained.
Current Role at CuraWest
Bill joined CuraWest in March 2023 as a Primary Therapist. His role involves a variety of responsibilities, including individual counseling, group therapy, intakes, biopsychosocial assessments, family sessions, and crisis intervention.
Bill said CuraWest’s supportive team environment sets it apart. “One of the things I truly like about CuraWest is the team. Everybody is there for each other. If you need help, they’re quick to jump in. The management genuinely cares about you as a person,” he noted.

A Unique Clinical Approach
Bill described the clinical program at CuraWest as comprehensive and supportive. “In detox, somebody meets with the clients daily and checks their well-being. When they enter the residential phase, someone will meet with them at least twice a week,” he explained. The program includes medical care, group therapy, outings, and various activities such as yoga and 12-step community meetings.
Personal Journey to Recovery
Bill shared about his journey in recovery and the path that ultimately led him to where he is today. “I ended up in recovery because I was afraid I was going to die. I went to the hospital and was in the ICU for 12 days. Treatment centers wouldn’t let me in because they were afraid I was going to die,” he recalled. Eventually, he found a place at Valley Hope in Oklahoma, where he stayed for 30 days. “At 11 months sober, I enrolled at school at Hazleton to become a counselor,” he said.
Teaching and Mentorship
Bill’s passion for the 12 steps extends to his teaching at CuraWest. “One of the things I’m doing here is teaching the 12 steps to the nursing staff, the BHTs, and the clinical staff. Given the people that aren’t in recovery that work here, I offer some language and some knowledge about what we are teaching,” he explained. This ensures everyone is on the same page and can effectively support clients.

My passions are hunting, fishing, camping, and the outdoors,” he shared. His voicemail even reflects his love for nature: “This is Bill. I’m either in the woods or on the water. Leave a message.”
