Adolescent Treatment Program FAQS
When considering enrolling your teen into an adolescent treatment program, it’s normal to have questions. Here are responses to some of the questions most parents ask.
Many insurers cover adolescent addiction rehab and mental health services, but it depends upon your policy. Guardian Recovery accepts most major insurance plans and will contact your insurance provider for you to learn about your benefits and coverage. Once we have the information, we will explain it in easy-to-understand language.
Teens cannot continue with standard schooling because they are engaged in treatment full-time for between 30 and 90 days. However, we develop homeschooling plans which allow them to stay enrolled in the courses they were taking at their school. If doing so is not possible, we offer accessible learning options.
Guardian Adolescent provides a dedicated classroom where your child will participate in our academic programs for two hours daily from Monday through Friday. A teacher will be present during class to monitor internet access and answer any questions that arise during schooling sessions. Your child will be able to transfer the credits back to their school.
Previously prescribed medications should be brought to our facility in the original bottle with prescription information. Our medical staff will hold these medications and administer them as needed. Our physicians may prescribe additional medicines in the case of untreated dual-diagnosis disorders. Because our goal is to free your child from addiction, narcotics and other potentially-addictive medications are prohibited.
Your child should only bring necessities, such as clothing, a journal, stationery, and toiletries. We do not allow chemical substances, weapons, electronic devices (cell phones will be held while your teen is in detox and residential treatment), perfumes, colognes, or any other substance containing alcohol. Books on addiction and other items that may trigger a craving are not allowed.
While your child is in residential treatment, they will interact solely with our staff and other teen residents. Once they transition from residential treatment into a lower level of care and no longer live in residence, they can interact with peers outside the program.
It is important to remember that some of these peers may use substances or pressure your child to do so. Steps should be taken to remove such people from your teen’s social circle to reduce the risk of relapse.
