Our Levels of Care for Teen Substance Use Recovery
At Montville Adolescent Center, we develop unique treatment plans specifically customized for each teen, taking into account their distinct needs and circumstances. This personalized approach ensures that the care provided is both comprehensive and effective. Through our individualized care model, we offer various levels of treatment designed to deliver the necessary support, structure, and therapeutic interventions that facilitate progress in the recovery journeys of teens and their families.
Adolescent Drug Detox
When adolescents develop dependence on substances, reducing or ceasing use can lead to withdrawal symptoms. While some substances may cause severe withdrawal symptoms that require medical oversight, others can lead to significant discomfort, often resulting in relapse.
Our adolescent detox program is designed to provide a safe and comfortable experience. Teens receive 24/7 medical attention from a team that includes nurses, a medical director, and nurse practitioners. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is available when needed to help manage withdrawal symptoms and ensure a smoother process.
To address emotional and psychological challenges, teens have daily sessions with a therapist or counselor, beginning their journey of recovery. With a capacity for up to five clients, our detox program emphasizes personalized care, focusing on medical stabilization to prepare teens for subsequent treatment phases.
Teen Residential Inpatient Treatment
Providing a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment, our residential inpatient program provides intensive support for teens. With a duration of roughly 28 days or more, our residential program helps stabilize teens emotionally while preparing them for the next phase of outpatient care.
The program includes a daily schedule that balances therapy, creative arts, recreation, mindfulness, and group activities to promote emotional healing. We also provide academic support, dedicating two hours each day to ensure teens stay on track with their schoolwork in collaboration with their school district.
Licensed for up to 25 clients, our residential program offers individualized care with daily medical check-ins, individual and group therapy, psychoeducation, and family counseling. Our goal is to equip teens with the skills and emotional resilience they need to continue their recovery journey, providing families with hope for a brighter future.

Montville Adolescent Center specializes in providing tailored care for teenagers dealing with behavioral issues and substance use disorders. We utilize a combination of individual and group therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to help adolescents delve into underlying challenges and develop new coping mechanisms and stress reduction techniques. Our group therapy sessions also help teens improve their communication skills and manage stress and emotions more effectively.
In addition, our structured educational sessions offer crucial insights into addiction and mental health issues, benefiting both teens and their families. Family therapy is a key component of our program, addressing fundamental issues and establishing a foundation for long-term success.
To provide a holistic treatment experience, we incorporate creative arts therapy, which offers a nonverbal means of expression and self-discovery. Through activities such as painting, drawing, music, and drama, teens can explore their emotions and experiences creatively.
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Teen Rehab Program
Does insurance cover the cost of treatment?
Yes, insurance usually covers all or part of detox and treatment costs, thanks to regulations such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA). The ACA requires that insurance companies cover all essential health benefits, including mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. Meanwhile, the MHPAEA secures your access to addiction and mental health benefits by preventing health insurance companies from imposing unfavorable benefit limitations.
What types of insurance do you accept?
We accept most insurance plans. But the best way to know what is covered and how much treatment will cost is to reach out to one of our admissions counselors. In addition to answering your questions, they can check your insurance benefits to determine roughly how much you’ll pay for care. If you don’t have insurance, additional payment options are available. The call is free and confidential, and you’re under no obligation to choose our treatment program.
How much does the program cost?
Since treatment is highly individualized, costs vary dramatically. The best way to determine how much you’ll pay for treatment is to reach out to an admissions rep at 888-483-1517, who can not only answer your questions but also verify insurance benefits or discuss additional payment options.
How do I get started?
Admission is quick and easy. Once you call our admissions team at 888-483-1517, one of our dedicated counselors will perform a pre-assessment for your teen over the phone. This takes about 10 minutes and ensures that we’re the best fit for your child. After the assessment, we verify insurance benefits (if any) and arrange a time for your intake. It’s that easy.
Can I visit my teen while they’re in treatment?
Yes. Visitation occurs Sundays during designated hours. Visitors are limited to family members and guardians at least 18 years of age. Prior to visitation, visitors must be approved by clinical staff and must attend a Family Support Session.
Are there any rules my teen must abide by while engaged in treatment?
To ensure the safety and privacy of all clients, we have Program Agreements and rules that we review with both you and your teen at admission and throughout their stay. If you’d like to learn more about these stipulations, reach out to us today at 888-483-1517.
Do you prescribe medications?
Any new doctor-approved medications and/or changes to existing medications are discussed with parents or guardians prior to implementation. If your teen already has a psychiatrist or prescribing primary care provider, please sign the Release of Information (ROI) form to ensure that we can communicate with these individuals during your child’s stay. This allows us to verify past treatment and communicate any medication additions or changes for post-treatment care.
What steps should I take when my teen is ready to discharge?
On the day your teen is admitted to the detox or residential care, their case manager begins planning their discharge to an outpatient program based on their progress, needs, and family resources. While plans change as needed, aftercare planning is a critical and ongoing part of the treatment process.
While Guardian Recovery has several outpatient options for adolescent services, we coordinate discharge planning regardless of the post-treatment services you choose. Discharge planning is discussed during your weekly calls and at your family therapy sessions. We also provide parents and/or guardians with clear discharge instructions and a discharge summary so there are no surprises come discharge day.
Do you offer support to family members?
Yes. Family involvement is a pivotal aspect of our treatment process, as the family unit plays a crucial role in the successful recovery and reintegration of our clients. During treatment, we engage families through several key initiatives.
Family involvement starts with the initial consultations and entry conferences, where they are introduced to the treatment plan and the team responsible for their teen’s care. This involvement continues with regular updates and meetings, ensuring that families are informed and active participants in the recovery journey. Together, clients and their loved ones work to improve communication, resolve conflict, and set and maintain healthy boundaries.
Additionally, we offer dedicated family therapy sessions, both virtually and in-person, providing a space for open communication and addressing any underlying issues within the family dynamics. Our program also includes family support groups, which provide education and peer support, allowing participants to share their experiences and challenges. Discharge conferences are also held to discuss post-treatment plans and strategies for reintegrating the child into the family environment.
This comprehensive approach to family involvement not only aids in recovery but also fosters a supportive and understanding environment at home, which is crucial for long-term success.
What educational coordination is offered?
Academics are a fundamental component of our program. To ensure that adolescents maintain their educational progress while undergoing treatment, we actively collaborate with each client’s home school district to facilitate attendance credits and ensure alignment with their academic curriculum. This includes coordination for both general education and special education as needed.
Recognizing the importance of continuing education, we established a robust system to integrate academic learning into the recovery process. We allocate dedicated time each day for academic pursuits, including two hours of structured academic and physical education activities. Our approach ensures that while our clients focus on their recovery, they do not fall behind academically, enabling a smoother transition back to their school environment post-treatment.
For clients who may have been out of the school system prior to entering care, we offer access to an online schooling platform called Advantages. It provides an alternative route to education via a flexible and tailored experience.
This holistic approach to treatment and education underscores our commitment to the overall well-being and future success of our adolescent clients.
Will my teenager have their own room?
We offer optional private bedrooms on a first come first serve basis. While some teens value privacy, others appreciate the support provided by living with another peer in treatment.
Are there any benefits to sending my teenager out of state for care?
Quality treatment centers located in your backyard can be convenient and easy to access. However, they’re also situated near old triggers, which can heighten the likelihood of relapse, particularly in the early stages of recovery. While certainly not required, putting a bit of distance between adolescents and their triggers can be beneficial.
